Robert C. Oaks

Assemblyman Robert C. Oaks is a lifelong resident of the 128th Assembly District, which includes all of Wayne County and parts of Cayuga and Oswego counties. Assemblyman Oaks is a 15-year veteran of county government, and a dedicated advocate of improving New York State's economic environment and our agricultural industry, as well as strengthening local government services. Born on January 15, 1952, Assemblyman Oaks was raised on a fifth-generation, working family farm in eastern Wayne County. He graduated from North Rose-Wolcott Central School in 1970. Assemblyman Oaks earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Colgate University in 1974 and went on to earn a Master's degree in Recreation Administration from the University of Montana in 1976. Assemblyman Oaks began his professional career in 1976 as Assistant Director of the Continuing Education Program for the Greece Central School District. In 1978, Bob was appointed director of the Wayne County Youth Bureau, a position he held for 5 years.

Assemblyman Oaks served as Wayne County Clerk from 1983 through the end of 1992. During his tenure as County Clerk, Assemblyman Oaks served as President of the New York State County Clerks Association, representing 62 county clerks statewide. In 1988, he was named New York State County Clerk of the Year by the association. Also while serving as County Clerk, Assemblyman Oaks was appointed co-chairperson of the New York State Bar Association ACCESS Committee and Public Records: Vision 2000 project.

Assemblyman Oaks has been a member of several community organizations. He presently serves as President of the Finger Lakes Council Boy Scouts of America and is a member of the Wayne County Advisory Committee of the Greater Rochester Community Endowment. He served nine years on the Wayne County United Way Board of Directors and was the countywide campaign chairman in both 1983 and 1984, as well as honorary chairman in 1997. He is a past President of the Wayne County Pre-Trial Services Board of Directors. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Macedon Recreation Commission, the Wayne County Youth Board, and as a youth baseball and soccer coach.

Assemblyman Oaks was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1992 and is now serving his ninth term. Assemblyman Oaks serves as the Assembly's Deputy Minority Leader. Previously, Assemblyman Oaks served on the Agriculture Committee, the Local Governments Committee, and the Economic Development Committee.

Assemblyman Oaks is the owner and agent of the Robert C. Oaks Insurance Agency, a third generation family-owned business meeting the insurance needs of area families, farm owners and small business owners.

Assemblyman Oaks and his wife, Judy, reside in Macedon. They have two adult sons, Christopher and Jason.
